Coolidge: Pioneer Dances
Richman: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra: In Truth
Dvorak: Symphony No. 9, “From the New World”
The 2015-16 season opens with a stirring program of American and American-inspired works. Peggy Stuart Coolidge’s Pioneer Dances kick things off, before the Maine premiere of Lucas Richman’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra: In Truth, written for guest pianist Jeffrey Biegel. Dvorak’s majestic Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” concludes the concert led by music director and conductor Lucas Richman.
“Biegel, who clearly loved playing this piece, played it brilliantly throughout. But nowhere was he better than in the gorgeous piano solo that opened the second movement and dissolved into jazzy syncopations in the orchestra.”
