University of Maine Singers Spring Tour Concert
Recently home from their annual Spring Tour the University of Maine Singers, under the direction of Francis John Vogt, will share the program they performed in high schools and churches throughout Central Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The concert pairs selections from Handel’s Messiah (they will perform the complete work on April 28) with modern and contemporary motets by Herbert Howells, John Tavener, and Z. Randall Stroope. The program also features settings of Walt Whitman by Norman Dello Joio and René Clausen in commemoration of the poet’s bicentennial. This concert is an Inauguration Week event, celebrating Joan Ferrini-Mundy, the new President of the University of Maine.
