Spring Choral Showcase

The UMaine School of Performing Arts Division of Music presents a Spring Choral Showcase, featuring live performances by three of the choirs from the University of Maine – Collegiate Chorale, Black Bear Men’s Chorus, and the University Singers – who will perform a diverse program with pieces ranging from traditional choral pieces, to contemporary composers, jazz, spirituals, and more!

Collegiate Chorale, directed by Molly Webster and accompanied by Dr. Laura Artesani, is an ensemble of students from the University of Maine from a variety of academic programs across campus. Collegiate Chorale is pleased to offer their spring program which seeks to explore the joy of love and spring, the grief of loss, and the unending desire for tranquility and peace; both for ourselves and the world. Highlights include: Liebst du um Schönheit (If You Love for Beauty – C. Schumann) O, My Luve’s Like a Red, Red Rose (Clausen), Earth Song (Ticheli), Light of a Clear Blue Morning (Parton) and I Will Arise and Go Now (Kirchner) – the program truly has something for everyone.

Black Bear Men’s Chorus, directed by Danny Williams and assistant directed and accompanied by Ginger Yang Hwalek, is comprised of students, faculty, staff, and members of the community. In this concert, they will sing a varied program of men’s choral repertoire.

The University Singers are the premier auditioned choir at the University of Maine. They recently completed their spring tour for the first time in two years since the COVID-19 pandemic halted all university travel. Led by director Francis John Vogt and accompanied by Dr. Laura Artesani, they have returned with a polished program including pieces featuring both vocal and instrumental soloists from the group. Additionally, the student-led a cappella groups – UMaine Renaissance and The Maine Steiners – will perform a selection from their repertoire.

Tickets: $12, including fees.
