BSO – Masterworks II – Symphonic Metamorphosis

Inspiration for the younger generation – journey with us as we hear how Edward Elgar
was inspired by J.S. Bach, and the pinnacle work of Paul Hindemith inspired by von
Weber. The Second Piano Concerto of Beethoven heavily borrows techniques used by
W.A. Mozart, who passed away just four years before this work’s premiere, with drama
and contrast evident in Beethoven’s maturing works plainly audible.

About the Guest Artist:
Henry Kramer, lauded for his expressive character and wide-ranging emotions and
praised by The Cleveland Classical Review for his “astonishingly confident technique”
and The New York Times for “thrilling [and] triumphant” performances, pianist Henry
Kramer is developing a reputation as a musician of rare sensitivity who combines stylish
programming with insightful and exuberant interpretations. In 2016, he garnered
international recognition with a Second Prize win in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in
Brussels. Most recently, he was awarded a 2019 Avery Fisher Career Grant by Lincoln
